South African Ministry of Sports – Semenya is innocent

Thought the South African ministry of sports and world athletics’ governing body IAAF promised a few months ago to work together towards resolve the issues surrounding the gender of South African 800m gold medallist Caster Semenya, there was no signs that the two sides are singing from the same hymn sheet yet.

The South African ministry of sports announced a few days ago that Caster Semenya will be allowed to keep the gold medal she won in Berlin this year regardless of the out come of the gender verification test the IAAF ordered her to undergo. The statement said, “Because caster has been found innocent of any wrong, she will retain her golf medal, retain her title of 800m world championship and retain her prize money.

A few hours after the announcement, a spokes person for IAAF released a statement saying no deal has been reached over whether Caster Semenya can keep her gold or not.

The South African ministry of sports also urge the IAAF not to release the result of Caster Semenya’s gender verification test into the public domain whatever their outcome.

The IAAF is yet to decide whether to suspend Caster Semenya, order her to have a surgery if she want to continue running as a woman or give her the all clear to continue running as a woman just as she is now.
